Southwest Equine Hospital is seeking a team-oriented, collaborative associate veterinarian to join our busy referral hospital and ambulatory practice in sunny Scottsdale, Arizona.
Our associate veterinarians primarily provide ambulatory scheduled and emergency services. Individuals interested in referral medicine / critical care may provide primary care for medical and surgical hospitalized patients with the support of board-certified specialists (Internal Medicine, Surgery, Dentistry). The mix of ambulatory and hospitalized caseload is excellent for veterinarians interested in pursuing ABVP (Equine) certification.
Southwest Equine Hospital is a well-established (30+ years) 100% equine practice and fully equipped. The facility has two spacious exam rooms, large OR with padded recovery stall, an 8 stall barn with video ICU monitoring, mare motel, large paddock turnouts and an arena for soundness exams under saddle. Equipment includes 3 ambulatory vehicles, 2 wireless DR units (Canon plates), portable ultrasounds (GE Vivid-I, Logic E Next Gen), shockwave, class 4 laser, regenerative therapies, video endoscopy, and an in-house laboratory (Idexx). Advanced imaging (MRI, Nuclear Scintigraphy) is available at nearby equine hospitals, with patients returning to SWEH for treatment and follow-up.
Associate veterinarians typically have a 4-5 day work week, depending upon emergency rotation. Ambulatory / after-hours emergency duty is typically 25-50% for associate veterinarians, with time off during the week to compensate for weekends on-call. We don’t believe in burning our associates out- SWE has a “work-hard, play-hard” philosophy, and encourages employees to enjoy the boundless cultural and recreational activities available in Arizona year round.
The successful candidate shares our philosophies:
Teamwork, Collegiality and Communication are the cornerstones to success.
No egos, just a shared passion for providing the best care we can offer. Our clients are passionate about their horses and most allow us to provide gold-standard, pro-active care for their athletes or family members.
Patient care is paramount, and we encourage collaboration and communication between all team members (veterinary assistants, technicians, interns, associates, specialists and referring veterinarians) to provide seamless and exceptional care.
Enjoy the Puzzles
The caseload at SWEH is interesting, varied and rarely boring / routine. While we have many healthy “routine” preventive-care patients, we also have more than our fair share of challenging head-scratchers. The successful applicant must love puzzles!
We have a very dense equine population, with all breeds and disciplines represented. There is ample opportunity to expand the caseload in whatever direction is of particular interest to the associate (sports medicine, repro, preventive, acupuncture/chiropractic, etc.)
We strongly believe in continuing education through formal meetings and informal discussions with colleagues.
Work Hard / Play Hard
We believe in working hard, but not burning out. Associate veterinarians receive time off during the week if on-call over the weekend and are REQUIRED to take 2 weeks paid vacation each year.
To apply, please send a letter of intent and curriculum vitae to firstname.lastname@example.org. A DVM/VMD degree and eligibility to obtain a license to practice veterinary medicine in Arizona is required. For more information, please visit our website at swequinehospital.com
