Equine Medical Center of Ocala is currently accepting students to visit our facility as an extern. We will begin accepting applications for the 2025-2026 Internship in June, 2021.

Philosophy of Internship: Encourage the development of problem solving skills and the application of veterinary education to daily equine practice. Integrate the professional veterinary degree with the needs of the horse, owner and trainer. Develop effective communication of knowledge and needs to the owners, referring veterinarian, hospital staff, and colleagues.
Additional Information: Our interns have a high rate of placement in residency programs and leave with a high degree of skill, confidence, and ability allowing them to transition easily into general practice.

Internship Duties: Interns rotate at 2 week intervals between 5 services and are responsible for the daily activities and patient care in anesthesia, surgery, medicine, emergency, and ambulatory/reproductive departments. The internship begins with a high level of direct supervision; however, independent case management, ambulatory call, and triage of emergencies is quickly encouraged in order to develop confidence, surgical acumen, reproductive skill, effective communication, and mastery of the medical method.
