Hands-on emergency & critical care experience

• Externs work directly alongside our emergency doctors and specialty clinicians, participating in triage, diagnostics, treatment planning, procedures, and patient monitoring in a fast-paced environment. You will gain real-world experience managing urgent and complex cases from the moment they walk in the door.
• Our hospital sees on average of 40 patients per day and upwards of 60 patients per day on the weekend, making us an excellent place to gain extensive experience not only with cats and dogs, but with exotic species as well.

• Students have opportunities to rotate through our expanding specialty departments—including Oncology and Exotic Animal Medicine—where you can observe advanced diagnostics, patient management, and collaborative case discussions.

• We believe that birds, reptiles, and small mammals deserve the same gold-standard care as dogs and cats. From parrots with big personalities to reptiles with subtle clinical signs, externs gain valuable experience working with a wide variety of species under the guidance of our exotics team.
